Center for Professional Development

The Center prepares students to enter the profession by showcasing employment programs that equip students to succeed in a professional environment.

  • The Center for Professional Development (CPD) is an office of attorneys with over 15 years of collective practical experience that assists students in making informed career decisions. The Center prepares students to enter the profession by showcasing employment opportunities and programs that equip students to succeed in a professional environment and foster growth in integrity, service, leadership and professional conduct. In addition to daily counseling and planning, the Staff meets annually with each of the College’s 300+ students to develop, update and finalize each student’s professional plan. This process allows the student to articulate post-graduation objectives and outline steps by which to achieve them, thereby laying a solid foundation for success with each student’s personal values.

The Center also houses the College of Law’s Academic Success and Legal Externship Programs. The offerings of each showcase our commitment to help students succeed both during and after their law school experience. The Academic Success Program is offered throughout the year and includes both one-on-one counseling and group sessions. Beginning in Fall 2011, Structured Study Groups became available for first-year student participation. Legal Externship opportunities present themselves in the second and third years of law school and allow upper-level students to gain practical experience with local legal employers while simultaneously earning class credit.
