IngotSave the Date! Law School to Celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure

Arthur MillerThe College of Law's fall event schedule kicks off with the "75th Anniversary of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure," a panel discussion to be held on August 27, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the Patricia Corbett Theater (CCM).  A star-studded panel of federal judges, academics, politicians, lawyers, and business people will come together to discuss the impact of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and the importance of this anniversary.  Arthur R. Miller, University Professor at New York University, the nation's leading scholar in the field of American civil procedure and coauthor with the late Charles Wright of Federal Practice and Procedure, will moderate this event. The panel discussion is free and open to the public. A reception will follow. (Read more)

IngotGoldman Prize Signals Growing Importance of UC Law's Practical Experience Programs

Lewis GoldfarbIn recent years the needs and demands of law school graduates and employers have changed. Both now demand a more practically focused legal education. Professor Lewis Goldfarb has created a program—the Entrepreneurship and Community Development Clinic—that places students directly into the representation process, allowing them to hone their ability to explain legal concepts to clients, spot legal issues for businesses, and draft documents commonly associated with representing a business. In effect, they are building a portfolio of "real life experiences" as lawyers. (Read more)

Ingot2013 Distinguished Alumni Awards Celebrated Daniel Buckley, the Hon. Dennis Helmick, and James Johnson

For 180 years, University of Cincinnati College of Law graduates have made their mark on the world as leaders of the bench and bar, in senior governmental positions, in the public service community, and in business, academia, and countless other fields. Friday, May 17, 2013 brought an opportunity to acknowledge and applaud three of them. Congratulations to the most recipients of the 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award: Daniel J. Buckley '74, Hon. IngotLaw School Launches Guest Student Program this Fall

Many professionals would benefit by obtaining knowledge of the law, including those working in such fields as business, criminal justice, engineering, medicine, psychiatry or psychology, education, human resources, journalism, and many more. These professionals, along with graduate students studying in other fields, can enhance their knowledge of law by enrolling in one or two classes at the College of Law as a "Guest Student." Guest Students can take up to six credits at the College in classes that will enhance their knowledge of law in topics of particular interest to them. If you are interested in taking a class as a guest student, contact Charlene Carpenter, registrar, for more information at 513.556.0070.
