Legal Extern Program

The College of Law recognizes that students develop essential skills by working under the supervision of practicing attorneys and active judges and offers academic credit to students who participate in the Legal Extern Program, administered by the CPD. The Extern Programs allow students to integrate classroom theory with actual legal practice and to begin their development as practicing professionals. Second and third year students may elect to participate in the Legal Extern Program, through which they work under the supervision of practicing attorneys in a variety of law or legally-related offices and organizations. Externship opportunities are available in both criminal and civil areas, ranging from the offices of the United States Attorney and federal and county Public Defenders, to Legal Aid, the National Labor Relations Board, and organizations advocating for the interests of children, the elderly and battered women.
