Computing Orientation: AntiVirus and AntiSpyware Software
It is extremely important to have up-to-date antivirus software on your home computer. E-mail viruses other security exploits are a constant danger.
The University has a site license with McAfee to make available their ViruScan products for free to all students. You can find out more information at http://www.uc.edu/ucit/ware/software/mcafee.html . Note: you must be on-campus or running SSL VPN client (see accessing your files from off-campus) to access this page and to download the McAfee file from off-campus.
While the latest version of McAfee available for download from the university's web site does include an anti-spyware module, additional tools are available if a user feels that their system has been infected by spyware. Two free options are Malwarebytes (available from http://www.malwarebytes.org/) and Spybot Search and Destroy (available from http://www.safer-networking.org).
