Meet Your Law Library Staff: Michael Whiteman
Where are you from?
I grew up in Montreal, Canada. I moved the States when I was in my 20’s and have been in the Cincinnati region since 2002.
What is your role at the law library?
I serve as the Associate Dean for Library Services. What this means is I have assembled an incredible group of librarians and staff who can assist you with your research needs.
What is your favorite part of the job?
Helping law students, faculty, and the legal community find information and use it in their research or law practice.
What do you like to do for fun?
I very much love ice hockey. I enjoy watching it, playing it (I play in an adult league), and watching my daughter play (she plays for an all-girls team here in Cincinnati). I like hiking with my wife, especially up north (Alaska, Wisconsin, Canada, etc) . I am a big fan of board games and role-playing games (like D&D) and as my wife reminds me often, I have way too many games (you can never have enough!)
What is a fun fact about you?
I love cats! I literally can spend hours playing with our three cats. I find cats to be both incredibly beautiful and perfectly narcissistic. They bring me endless joy.
What advice would you give to new students about using the law library?
Do not be afraid to ask a question of any of us in the law library. Don’t spend minutes, hours, wondering, just ask, we are all perfectly happy to assist however we can.
