Filing the FAFSA

Law students who wish to utilize federal student loans and/or work study to assist with the cost of their legal education should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA,  using the University of Cincinnati’s school code of 003125. Students are encouraged to file the FAFSA by March 1 each year.

The US Department of Education considers anyone pursuing a law degree to be independent for financial aid purposes; therefore parental financial data and signatures are not required – only the student’s ID, income, and asset information must be submitted on FAFSA. We also encourage students to use figures from a completed federal income tax form to limit any FAFSA corrections that may need to be updated later.

After your FAFSA has been submitted, the US Department of Education will forward the results to the University of Cincinnati. Beginning in late spring each year the University’s Student Financial Aid Office will make awards for incoming and returning students. Awards can be viewed and then accepted or declined online on their student Catalyst portal at catalyst.uc.edu under My Finances.

Students who have questions about completing the FAFSA may contact Cassandra Jeter-Bailey, Assistant Dean for Admissions & Financial Aid, at jeterbcb@ucmail.uc.edu or 513-556-0077.
