Christopher Lee Bennett

Christopher Lee Bennett

Chris Bennett spent four years in prison for aggravated vehicular homicide.

Chris was the passenger in a motor vehicle driven by a friend who was intoxicated. Their car struck a semitruck, killing a person. Chris suffered brain damage in the accident and lost his memory. Unable to recall the events, he could not mount a defense and entered a plea bargain that resulted in the imposition of a nine-year sentence of imprisonment. As his memory began to return, Chris reached out to OIP for assistance. Law students working in OIP carefully investigated the case, locating critical DNA and eyewitness testimony that were pivotal to securing freedom for Chris. His conviction was reversed by the Ohio Court of Appeals in 2006.

Chris died in 2009.
